Pieter "Peter" Otto Schep (born March 8, 1977 in Lopik ) is a Dutch cycling trainer and former track and road cyclist .

Cycling career

Peter Schep started with the AXA Cycling Team in 2001 . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he was fifth in the team pursuit with the Dutch team and seventh in the points race . In 2005 he won his first silver medal at the World Railroad Championships in Los Angeles with Jens Mouris , Niki Terpstra and Levi Heimans in the team pursuit. At the World Championships in Bordeaux the following year , Schep was world champion in points driving.

On the road, Peter Schep won a stage of the Olympia's Tour in 2000 . In 2006 he won the Omloop van de Glazenstad .

At the UCI Track World Championships 2011 in Apeldoorn , the Netherlands , Schep won silver in the two-man team , together with Theo Bos . At the 2011 UEC Derny European Championship in Montichiari , he won the title behind pacemaker Joop Zijlaard . In the same year he was diagnosed with a bone tumor in his neck and operated on. The tumor was found to be benign.

Between 2004 and 2013, Schep contested a total of 56 six-day races , of which he won seven. At the end of the 2013 season, he ended his cycling career. His last race was the six days in Amsterdam .

Professional

Since 2014 Schep has acted as deputy sports director and assistant to Michael Zijlaard at the six-day race in Rotterdam . In 2016 he became the national coach of the endurance team in the Dutch cycling association Koninklijke Nederlandsche Wielren Unie (KNWU), after initially working as an assistant for the youngsters.
