Michael Zijlaard

Michael Zijlaard (born July 26, 1971 in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel ) is a former Dutch cyclist and today's cycling official.

Michael Zijlaard was active as a cyclist from 1986 to 1993. In 1993 Michael Zijlaard was Dutch champion in the Derny race and second in the Omloops van de Glazen Stad .

Subsequently, Zijlaard retired from active cycling and has since worked as a manager and sports director for various teams . From 2012 he was the manager of the women's cycling team AA Drink-leontien.nl , named after his wife, multiple world and Olympic champion Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel . His father is the legendary Derny pacemaker Joop Zijlaard ; his niece, Nicky Zijlaard, had international success as a cyclist when she finished ninth in the junior women's individual time trial at the 2012 UCI Road World Championships in Valkenburg, Netherlands , and his nephew Maikel Zijlaard is also active as a cyclist.

Michael Zijlaard heads the sports marketing company Leontien Total Sports . He has been the manager of the Roompot team since 2015 . He also acts as the sports director of the six-day race from Rotterdam .

Zijlaard received the Olympic Coach Award from the Nederlands Olympisch Comité .
