As a woman Radrennsport participation is understood by women in cycling races, so in competitions in road cycling , track cycling , mountain biking , cyclocross and BMX .

Road cycling

Both the UCI Road World Championships (since 1958) and the Olympic Games (since 1984) take place on the road for women.

Other important one-day races were compiled by the UCI World Cycling Association in the UCI Women Road World Cup with a separate ranking until 2015 and since 2016 together with important stage races in the calendar of the newly founded UCI Women's WorldTour . summarized as a series in which not only national teams but also UCI women's teams take part.

While women's road races were often rather short in the past, the development of women's cycling can also be seen in the distances. The maximum distance for a one-day race or a stage is 140 km for the women's elite category , 40 km for individual time trials and 50 km for team time trials . In stage races, the maximum stage average is 100 km.

Other cycling disciplines

Women's competitions are also held at the annual UCI World Championships in track cycling (since 1958), mountain biking (since 1990), cyclocross (since 2000) and BMX . Women's competitions on the track , mountain biking and cyclocross are also part of the respective UCI World Cups .

At the Olympic Games , women's competitions also take place on the track (since 1988), mountain biking (since 1996) and BMX (since 2008). At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , track cycling was the first to have the same number of competitions for women and men.

In the field of road cycling, the World Cycling Association UCI women's teams with up to 20 riders are registered. A world ranking list was also kept for these teams.

There are no separate women's teams in track cycling and mountain biking. However, there are mixed UCI Track Teams and UCI MTB Teams in which the riders of these teams and their male colleagues take part in the respective World Cup series.

World rankings

The UCI world cycling association maintains its own world rankings for women in road cycling , cyclocross, BMX and the individual disciplines of track cycling and mountain biking.

Organizations

In 2016, the Association of Professional Cyclists, Cyclistes Professionnels Associés, received its own section for women's cycling. The 1997 road world champion, Alessandra Cappellotto , became the first chairwoman .
