Women's cycling world cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World Cup in road cycling women ( English UCI Women Road World Cup ) was a 1998 to 2015 by the International Cycling Union UCI discharged series of the most important one-day races of the season and was next to the UCI World Ranking as the most important annual ranking in road cycling women.

At the races, points were awarded to female riders and UCI women's teams , which were included in an overall ranking. With the aim of increasing the attractiveness of the competitions, the UCI introduced additional special ratings in addition to the overall individual and team ratings for the 2014 season. A sprint and a mountain classification were awarded on the basis of intermediate sprints , as well as a junior classification on the basis of the finish line.

Over time, various races were part of the women's cycling world cup, which were later removed from the program; nor did the number of races remain constant. In 2015, ten events were included in the overall ranking of the Women's Cycling World Cup, including nine one-day races and one team time trial , which take place between the end of March and mid-September.

The 20 UCI women's teams that top the UCI world rankings for teams at the beginning of the season as well as the national teams of those five nations that had won the UCI at the end of the previous season were automatically entitled to start in all races of the women's cycling world cup Leading world rankings for nations. At least four riders per team had to start.

At the end of the 2015 season, the series was replaced by the UCI Women's WorldTour , which also includes the most important stage races .

Scoring

Individual evaluation

The overall ranking of the Cycling World Cup for women riders was based on the allocation of points in each individual race.

The points scale was revised with effect from the 2014 Women's Cycling World Cup and is as follows for the one-day races with individual starts:

position 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th 8th 9 10 11 12 ... 20th
Points 120 100 85 70 60 50 40 35 30th 25th 20th 18th ... 2

In the team time trial, the riders received points according to the ranking of their team as follows:

position 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th 8th 9 10 11 12 ... 20th
Points 35 30th 25th 20th 16 15th 14th 13 12 11 10 9 ... 1

Team evaluation

For the team evaluation, the four best placed drivers of a team were evaluated in each race after the finish and their points were added to a total value, which was then included in the team evaluation.

For the team time trial, however, a different point allocation also applied to the team classification; if a team completed the team time trial with fewer than four drivers, no points were awarded:

position 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th ... 20th
Points 140 120 100 80 64 60 56 ... 4th

Sprint, mountain and junior competition

In the sprint and mountain classifications , 6, 4 and 2 points were awarded in up to three intermediate evaluations in each competition. On the basis of crossing the finish line, the best female riders in the U23 category are also awarded 6, 4 and 2 points.

Leader jerseys

After each race, the points gained for each driver were added to the current status. The respective leading rider in the overall ranking of the Women's Cycling World Cup was then presented with a special jersey. She is obliged to wear this jersey in the other races of the Cycling World Cup for as long as she holds the lead in the overall standings.

The leaders of the special ratings introduced in 2014, as well as the overall leaders, were awarded a rating jersey . The look of the rating jerseys was based on designs by Iris Slappendel , an active cyclist who won a UCI design competition.
