Pia Ann-Katrine Sundstedt (born May 2, 1975 in Kokkola ) is a former Finnish athlete specializing in mountain biking , cross-country skiing and road cycling . With the start of the 2014 season, she has been the sporting director of a women's cycling team in Qatar .

Athletic career

Pia Sundstedt began her career as a road cyclist . In 1997 she was two-time Finnish road racing and individual time trial champion , and road champion again in 2001 and 2005. Also in 1997 she won the Giro del Trentino Alto Adige and again in 2000. In 1998 and 2000 she took second place at the Flèche Wallonne , and in 2000 she also took second place in the overall ranking of the women's cycling world cup . In the same year she also took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney and finished 21st in the road race; that year she was also voted Sportswoman of the Year in Finland . At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , she finished 20th in the road race and eleventh in the individual time trial.

From 2005 on, Pia Sundstedt increasingly turned to cross country and was multiple European and world champion in this discipline as well as in the marathon.

Professional

At the end of the 2012 season, Sundstedt ended her career as an active athlete. She took over the management of a Qatar women's cycling team, which, starting with the 2014 season, aims to have women riders from that country take part in the 2016 UCI Road World Championships .
