The Black Forest Ultra Bike Marathon is an annual mountain bike marathon in the Black Forest .

history

Stone monument for the Ultra Bike Marathon in Kirchzarten, behind the parish church of St. Gallus

It was first held in 1997. The marathon is one of the largest in Central Europe . In 2002 the marathon was canceled due to the soccer world championship .

A stone monument was erected in Kirchzarten in 2007 for the tenth anniversary, on which the previous winners of the competition are noted. In 2010 there were a total of 4774 participants who started.

In 2013, 5112 participants started on one of the five different routes “Ultra”, “Marathon”, “Power Track”, “Speed Track” and “Short Track”. The longest route was the “Ultra route”: This led over around 116 kilometers and over 3,150 meters in altitude . The marathon route ran over 77 kilometers at an altitude of 2000 meters. The routes led over several mountain heights of the southern Black Forest, the finish line for all routes was, as in previous years, in the stadium in Kirchzarten in the Dreisamtal.

On July 1, 2013, the leadership of the organizing committee resigned after the population voted against a permanent youth training ground on Giersberg in a referendum. The event was canceled in 2014. In the first meeting of the organizing committee after the resignation of the management, it was decided to continue the event in 2015. In 2016, the organizing committee was expanded by the former German U23 champion Benjamin Rudiger and the competition director of FT 1844 Freiburg, Peter Gerspach.

The German marathon champions were determined here in June 2018.

There will be no marathon in 2020.
