Dark germ
Dark germinators are plants whose seeds ( seed ), only germinate in sufficient darkness because their germination is inhibited by light. So they have to be sufficiently covered with soil after sowing .
Plant seeds have photoreceptor proteins, the so-called phytochromes , which can measure the ratio of different wavelengths of light. Dark germs probably register very long-wave light, which is able to penetrate the uppermost soil layers.
Typical dark germs are:
- Christmas rose
- Monkshood
- Lupins
- Corn
- Persian speedwell
- Tansy phacelia
- delphinium
- Cranesbills
- Schefflera
