Mountain bike marathon
The mountain bike marathon is a discipline of mountain bike sport that is followed by many mountain bike riders around the world.
history
The first mountain bike marathon in Germany was the Erzgebirgs-Bike-Marathon in 1993 .
The mountain bike marathon world championships have been taking place since 2003 .
Characteristics and rules
The mountain bike marathon is a sub-form of the cross-country race . Every year there are competitions and preparation phases for the fitness of professional drivers across Europe. Both the route length and the travel time are significantly longer in marathons than in normal cross-country competitions. The various cycling marathons are summarized by the World Cycling Federation UCI in the so-called Marathon World Series . The largest European mountain bike marathon racing series is MarathonMan Europe .
Minimum time | Minimum distance | |
---|---|---|
marathon | 3 h | 60 km |
World Series marathon | 4 h | 80 km |
World championships | 4 h | 80 km |
With many organizers of marathon races it is possible to choose between different distances (for example a 60, 80 or 100 km distance) when registering. In order to equalize the field of participants, start groups are sometimes formed that start with a delay.
In addition to the official UCI races, there are also numerous mountain bike marathon races for amateur athletes, in Germany for example the Gäsbock Mountain Bike Marathon , the Black Forest Bike Marathon or the Black Forest Ultra Bike Marathon . Crossing the Alps by MTB is a particular challenge .
