Profile and characteristics

The Black Forest Bike Marathon can optionally be completed over four different lengths. The king's stage over 120 kilometers, on which the EGT Cup named after the sponsor is held, is considered the most difficult mountain bike marathon in Germany. Other route lengths are the 90 km ( Rothaus Cup), the 60 km route ( GVS Cup) and the 42 km route (tw-Cup). On the Saturday before the main race, a youth race has been held since 2008, the RENA Kids Cup.

The race takes place in the central Black Forest in the communities of Furtwangen , Gütenbach , Schönwald , Schonach , Triberg , St. Georgen in the Black Forest and Vöhrenbach . As of the 2007 event, the routes will no longer cross the district of Gütenbach; the route has been relocated accordingly. The start and finish is still in Furtwangen in the area of Robert-Gerwig-Platz in front of the Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences and the German Clock Museum .

The first Black Forest bike marathon started in 1997 with around 500 participants. The number of participants grew in the following editions and has been around 1000–1500 in recent years, plus around 170 participants in the Kids Cup. The organizer is a non-profit association. Members of the association are the participating municipalities, associations from the municipalities and interested private individuals. Richard Krieg was chairman from the beginning and mayor of Furtwangen until 2009 . In 2011, the current Mayor of Furtwang, Josef Herdner, took over the chairmanship.
