Adelheid Morath (born August 2, 1984 in Titisee-Neustadt ) is a German cyclist in the field of cross-country mountain biking (CC) and two-time Olympic athlete (2008, 2012).

Athletic career

Adelheid Morath starts for the Sabine Spitz Haibike Pro Team , previously with the Felt Ötztal X-Bionic Team , previously for the Rothaus / Cube team . The sports soldier is stationed in Fahl and was champion at the German Junior Championships in 2002 as well as seventh at the European Junior Championships in Zurich and 15th at the World Championships in Kaprun . Morath has been in the elite segment since 2003.

In 2003 she finished 24th at the World Championships in Lugano and won the short track distance at the Black Forest Ultra Bike Marathon . In 2004 Morath was 26th at the CC European Championships in Walbrych and fourth in the national championships, the same placement she achieved the following year. In 2004, Morath also took to the streets at the International Women's Tour of Thuringia . In 2005 the Friborg woman finished eleventh at the World Cup in Livigno and reached number 17 in the world rankings. In Blankenburg she won a race in the Bundesliga for the first time and thus also gave her racing team their first ever victory. In 2007 Morath came second in the World Class MTB Challenge . In 2005 and 2006 Morath won bronze in the national championships in the marathon competition, and in 2007 silver. In the CC area, she won a bronze medal for the first time in 2008 at German championships. At the end of 2006, Morath was hit by a car while training and broke his kneecap.

In the qualification for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games of Beijing Morath reached only half the norm. But with her performances in the years before the games, she had also made sure that Germany got another quota place. In the last nomination round, in which the special cases were discussed, Morath was also nominated for the games. At the final of the Olympic Games in 2008, she reached 18th place after two falls. She had to walk the last kilometer because her bike broke.

With the Felt Ötztal X-Bionic Team , she finished second in the world rankings in 2011.

2012 Summer Olympics

At the World Cup in Houffalize 2012, Morath achieved her best World Cup result to date with ninth place and thus secured a place in the German Olympic team for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , where she finished 16th.

In 2013 Morath switched to the Sabine Spitz Haibike Pro Team where she competes in the 2013 season together with Olympic champion Sabine Spitz. After an injury break at the beginning of the season, Morath returned with the bronze medal at the German championships and shortly afterwards finished 14th at the UCI MTB World Cup in Offenburg.

At the 2018 Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships , she finished tenth in Auronzo di Cadore, Italy .
