Oenone Lee Wood (born September 24, 1980 in Newcastle , New South Wales ) is a former Australian cyclist .
Athletic career
Oenone Wood only started cycling when she was in her early twenties, but success quickly emerged. She had previously studied electrical engineering. From 2001 to 2008 she was active as a professional racing driver. During this time, she won the women's cycling world cup twice , in 2004 and 2005. In 2004 and 2008, Wood was Australian champion in road racing, and in 2005 in the individual time trial . In 2005 and 2006 she was also able to win the overall ranking of the “Geelong Tour”.
At the 2006 Commonwealth Games , Oenone Wood won the gold medal in the individual time trial and the silver medal in the road race. She took part in the Olympic Games twice, in 2004 and 2008. At the 2004 Games in Sydney , she finished fourth in the road race.
Honors
In 2005, Oenone Wood was voted “Cyclist of the Year” in Australia. In 2016 she became a Cycling Australia Hall of Fame
