Sarah Gigante (born October 6, 2000 ) is an Australian cyclist who competes in races on track and road .
Athletic career
In 2017 Sarah Gigante won the silver medal in the junior road race at the Oceania Championships. The following year she won the title and was third in the individual time trial. She also won three national junior titles. In May 2018, she fell in a club race and broke both arms, and on one of her first trips after her operation, she dislocated a shoulder. Contrary to medical advice, she started at the junior track world championships in August and finished second in the points race .
In January 2019, the 18-year-old giant was the youngest starter, surprisingly the Australian road champion, with a lead of 50 seconds on the runner-up Amanda Spratt , vice road world champion in 2018 . In March of that year she was U23 Oceania champion in the individual time trial and finished second in the women's road race. In 2020 she was again Australian road champion.
Miscellaneous
Sarah Gigante began cycling by riding a regular tandem to school with her mother Kerry . When she was eight she was tired of looking her mother on the back and started cycling, she later reported in an interview.
In 2018, Gigante achieved the highest possible value of 99.95 points in the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for admission to universities. This gave her a scholarship to study at Melbourne University . After her fall in early summer, in which she broke both arms, her mother wrote down the necessary work for her.
