The Center Mondiale du Cyclisme in Aigle

The UCI Juniors Track World Championships 2018 took place from 15 to 19 August 2018 in Switzerland Aigle instead. The races were held in the Center Mondial du Cyclisme ( World Cycling Center ) of the World Cycling Federation Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). The Velodrom, whose cycle track is only 200 meters long, was the venue for the junior track world championships for the second time after 2016 . Around 300 athletes from 45 nations took part.

The most successful athlete in the world championships and thus also of the Federation of German Cyclists was Lea Friedrich , who won all four gold medals in the short-term disciplines - sprint , keirin , 500-meter time trial and team sprint .

The young Indian Esow Alban won a silver medal in the Keirin. This makes him the first Indian athlete to win a medal at the UCI World Championships. He had previously won three gold medals at the Asian junior track championships.

The cycling track in Aigle is only 200 meters long instead of the usual 250. The team sprinters drove two (juniors) and three laps (juniors). The times are therefore not comparable with those of other Junior World Championships in which the races over 500 (juniors) or 750 meters (juniors) are or were contested.
