There were around 200 athletes from 23 nations at the start, none of them from Germany.
Three new junior world records were set on the first day of the competition: Lidija Pluschnikowa and Darja Schmeljowa set new records in the qualification of the team sprint and again in the final with 34.155 seconds. In the team pursuit of the juniors, the Australians Georgia Baker , Taylah Jennings and Kelsey Robson set a new best time in 3: 24.372 minutes with an improvement of more than one second. Another world record of the Australian men's team sprint could not be recognized because of a faulty replacement.
The most successful athlete in the world championships was the Russian rider Darja Schmeljowa, who not only won four gold medals in all short-term disciplines, but also set new world records in the 500-meter time trial and team sprint.
