Elinor Barker , MBE (born September 7, 1994 in Cardiff ) is a Welsh cyclist and Olympic champion.
Athletic career
In 2011 Elinor Barker won the silver medal in the individual time trial at the World Road Championships in Copenhagen , and came second in the single pursuit at the European Junior Track Championships . In 2012 she became Junior World Champion in the individual time trial in Valkenburg , at the world championships on the track she took second place in the Omnium as well as in the single pursuit and third place in the team pursuit (with Hayley Jones and Amy Roberts ). In the same year she was also two-time junior European champion in the singles and in the team pursuit (with Roberts and Lucy Garner ).
In the following years, Barker shifted the focus of her sporting activity to the track and became one of the most successful drivers in the team pursuit. In this discipline, she was world champion in 2013 and 2014 and European champion three times in a row from 2013 to 2015.
In 2016 Elinor Barker was nominated to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she won the team pursuit with Katie Archibald , Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell-Shand . The following year she was world champion in points , scratch and two-man team driving (with Emily Nelson ) she won silver. In 2018, she and Archibald, Kenny and Emily Nelson won silver in the team pursuit at the World Railroad Championships and gold in the points race at the Commonwealth Games . The following year she became World Champion in Scratch and European Champion in Team Pursuit, and in 2020 she was two-time World Champion in points race and team pursuit (with Katie Archibald, Eleanor Dickinson , Neah Evans and Laura Kenny ).
