Karen Holliday

Karen Holliday (born February 12, 1966 in Nelson ) is a former New Zealand cyclist .

Karen Holliday became the New Zealand road racing champion in 1990. In the same year she won the world championship title in the points race in Maebashi after falling badly during the race and being dazed for a short time. She won the first world championship gold medal for New Zealand at elite cycling world championships. For a few days she finished fourth in the World Championship road race.

In the early 1990s, Karen Holliday had to stop cycling because of thyroid problems ; she then worked as a personal trainer and ran her own sports studio. Today she works as a real estate agent. In 1990 Karen Holliday was awarded the renowned New Zealand sports prize "Halberg Award" (named after the New Zealand athlete Murray Halberg ); In 1997 she was inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame.
