Linda Melanie Villumsen Serup (born April 9, 1985 in Herning ) is a former New Zealand cyclist who was born in Denmark .

Athletic career

Linda Villumsen has had international success in road cycling since 2004. In 2006 and 2007 she was European champion (U23) in the individual time trial , in 2006, 2008 and 2009 she was two-time Danish champion in road racing and in the individual time trial. In 2006 she also took third place in the single pursuit at the Danish Rail Championships .

In 2006 Linda Villumsen won the overall ranking of the Route de France Féminine , in 2009 she won the Grand Prix Copa Etrusca and in 2009 the International Tour of Thuringia women . In 2009 she took third place in the individual time trial at the Road World Championships in Mendrisio ; in her participation in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing fifth place in the road race and 13th in the individual time trial.

In 2009 Villumsen took citizenship of New Zealand. In 2010 she was second in the New Zealand road championship and third in the individual time trial. In the overall standings of the Tour of New Zealand 2010 she finished sixth in the overall standings. In the same year she took third place in the individual time trial in Geelong at the road world championships .

At the UCI Road World Championships 2011 in Copenhagen , she finished second in the time trial behind Judith Arndt . In 2013 she became New Zealand champion in the individual time trial and finished second behind Ellen van Dijk at the 2013 UCI Road World Championships in Florence .

At the beginning of 2015, she won the New Zealand road racing championship. She won the individual time trial title at the 2015 UCI Road World Championships in Richmond . However, since she was not using the time trial machine of the bike outfitter of her team United Healthcare, the team management temporarily considered resigning. In 2016 she started the road race at the Olympic Games and finished sixth.

At the 2018 Commonwealth Games , Villumsen won the silver medal in the individual time trial. Then she ended her cycling career.

Private

Linda Villumsen has been in a relationship with former cyclist Emma Trott , the older sister of multiple Olympic champion Laura Trott , for several years .
