Laura Rebecca Kenny , b. Trott , CBE , (born April 24, 1992 in Harlow ) is a British cyclist , four-time Olympic champion (as of 2016) and seven-time world champion. She is the most successful British female track cyclist of the 2010s.
Athletic career
2010 Laura Trott European champion in the team pursuit , along with Katie Colclough and Wendy Houvenaghel . At the 2011 UCI Track World Championships , she became world champion in team pursuit, together with Houvenaghel and Danielle King . In 2011 she became double European champion in the team pursuit and in the Omnium in Apeldoorn , making her the most successful athlete at the European Championships. At the UCI Track World Championships in 2012 , she again won two gold medals, in the team pursuit and as the youngest starter in the Omnium.
At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , Trott won two gold medals, one in the Omnium and another in the team pursuit, together with King and Joanna Rowsell , with the riders breaking their own world record twice in one day, which they set in April 2012 at the track World Cup in Melbourne . At the UCI Track World Championships 2013 in Minsk , she was again world champion in team pursuit together with Danielle King and Elinor Barker ; in the Omnium, she took second place.
In 2014 Laura Trott (nickname: "Trotty") became British road racing champion . In the 2015 UEC European Track Championships in Switzerland Grenchen she won three gold medals in the Omnium, in the team pursuit and the scratch. With a total of ten titles, Trott is the most successful female cyclist at European championships to date.
In 2016 Trott was nominated to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after becoming world champion in Omnium and Scratch in the spring of that year . In Rio she became Olympic champion in omnium and team pursuit.
In February 2018, Laura Trott announced that, after the birth of a child in August 2017, she would be competing internationally for the first time at the 2018 UCI Track World Championships , where she won silver in the team pursuit with the British team. Shortly before, she had become the British Omnium Champion. In the same year she won gold medals in various disciplines in four rounds of track cycling world cups. At the UCI Track World Championships in 2019 , she won silver in the team pursuit with the British four-man team, became European champion in the team pursuit and won two silver medals.
Honors
Laura Trott was honored with the induction into the Hall of Fame of the European cycling association Union Européenne de Cyclisme . In 2013 she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). In 2014, the Grundy Park Leisure Center in Cheshunt was renamed The Laura Trott Leisure Center after a £ 4 million renovation.
In 2013 she was ranked 42nd on the UK ranking of the “100 Sexiest Women in the World” by the men's magazine FHM .
In 2016 Laura Kenny was named Sportswoman of the Year by the Sunday Times and also named "Woman of the Year" by Harper's Bazaar . In January 2017 she was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire . A few weeks later she was nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards as World Sportswoman of the Year .
Private
Laura Trott was engaged to her teammate Jason Kenny since Christmas 2014 . Together, the couple had won ten Olympic gold medals by 2016. Their relationship was 2,012 randomly become public, as they at a beach volleyball match at the Olympic Games in London were kissing in the stands while seated in front of them , David Beckham was photographed. On September 24, 2016, the golden couple of British track cycling married and Laura Trott took her husband's name. A son was born in August 2017.
In November 2016, the couple published their joint autobiography The Inside Track .
