Danielle "Dani" Rowe , née King , MBE (born November 21, 1990 in Southampton ) is a former British cyclist and Olympic champion.

Athletic career

2009 and 2010 Dani King won four national titles in various disciplines in the two-team driving , in Dernyrennen in the Team Pursuit and the criterion . In addition, the athlete, who then lived in Belgium, also achieved minor successes in road races.

At the UCI Track World Championships 2011 in Apeldoorn , King won two medals: gold in the team pursuit, together with Wendy Houvenaghel and Laura Trott , and bronze in scratch ; the following year she became world champion in this discipline for a second time , together with Trott and Joanna Rowsell . In the same line-up, the three British riders won the gold medal in the team pursuit at the 2012 Olympic Games in London , twice in one day breaking their own world record, which they set in April 2012 at the World Track Championships in Melbourne .

At the UCI Track World Championships 2013 in Minsk , Danielle King again became world champion in the team pursuit together with Laura Trott and Elinor Barker .

In the following years King was increasingly active in road cycling . In 2018 she finished second overall in the Tour de Yorkshire and third in the Women's Tour . At the end of the season, she announced her retirement from competitive cycling.

Honors

Dani King was honored with the induction into the Hall of Fame of the European cycling association Union Européenne de Cyclisme .

Personal

In September 2017, Dani King married former cyclist Matthew Rowe and took her husband's name.
