Melissa Hoskins (born February 24, 1991 in Kalamunda ) is a former Australian cyclist .

Athletic career

From 2006 Melissa Hoskins was active in competitive cycling, on the road and on the track . In 2008 she was the Australian Junior Team Pursuit Champion , with Sarah Kent and Josephine Tomic ; the three riders were able to repeat this success in 2009 and 2010 in the elite class. In 2009 she became Junior Champion in Keirin . In 2011 Hoskins was again Australian champion in the team pursuit, with Tomic and Isabella King , in the Omnium and points race she was second and third in the single pursuit .

In 2012 Melissa Hoskins became Australian junior champion in the criterion . She also won the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic . At the 2012 UCI Track World Championships in Melbourne , Hoskins won the silver medal in scratch . At the rail world championships in Minsk the following year, Hoskins was runner-up in the team pursuit together with Annette Edmondson and Amy Cure .

In 2016, Hoskins was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . During training a few days before the start of the games, she was seriously injured in a fall. She was able to leave the hospital after a few days because she only suffered burns to the skin. She started in great pain with the Australian team in the team pursuit, which finished fifth. A few days later, Hoskins, who had developed pneumonia earlier in the year , announced her retirement from cycling.
