Alexis Rhodes (born December 1, 1984 in Alice Springs ) is a former Australian cyclist who was active on track and road .
Cycling career
In 2002 Alexis Rhodes became Junior World Champion in the single pursuit . In the following years she was on the podium several times at national championships, in rail and road disciplines. In 2009 she won the gold medal in road racing at the Oceania Championships and in 2010 in the individual time trial . At the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010 , she finished fourth in the individual time trial.
In 2011, Alexis Rhodes was Australian road racing champion, fifth overall in the Tour of Qatar and third in the individual time trial at the Oceania Championships . In 2012 she won the national championship title in the criterion . At the road world championships in the same year, she won silver in the team time trial together with Orica GreenEdge . Then she ended her cycling career.
accident
On July 18, 2005, an 18-year-old novice driver drove her car near the Thuringian Zeulenroda into the training group of Alexis Rhodes, who was there on the occasion of the International Tour of Thuringia . Rhodes' teammate Amy Gillett was killed; five other drivers were seriously injured. Alexis Rhodes was in mortal danger and was in an artificial coma for eight days . Another driver, Louise Yaxley, was also critically injured. Both drivers survived; Yaxley then stopped cycling.
