Lily Williams (born June 24, 1994 in Tallahassee ) is an American cyclist who competes on track , road and cross-country races.

Athletic career

Lily Williams began her athletic career as a runner on the medium-haul flights , also cross country . She held the Florida high school record with 4:42 minutes . In 2016 she graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Biology , Latin American Studies and English Studies . At the same time, she stopped running because she felt burned out and exhausted.

"For fun," and now that she had more time, Williams began working in a bicycle shop. A colleague there persuaded her to take part in a local cycling group. In January 2017 she finished second in the national collegiate championships in cyclo- cross racing and months later won a stage in the Joe Martin Stage Race . In the same year, she received her Masters in Science Journalism from Northwestern University .

In 2018 Lily Williams got a contract with the Hagens Berman cycling team . She consciously decided to contest cycling in several disciplines: Her role models are Marianne Vos , Lucinda Brand , Jolanda Neff and Annika Langvad .

In 2019 Williams won with Kimberly Geist , Christina Birch and Chloé Dygert at the Pan-American Games in the team pursuit , at the Pan-American Championships the four-man finished second in a different composition. The following year she won gold in the team pursuit at the World Cup in Milton with Jennifer Valente , Chloé Dygert and Emma White .

In February 2020 Lily Williams became world champion in the team pursuit together with Valente, Dygert and White in Berlin .
