The Minsk Arena
Irishman Martyn Irvine won two medals within an hour.
Rebecca James was the most successful female athlete at the World Cup in Minsk.

The 103rd UCI Track World Championships took place from February 20 to 24, 2013 in Minsk , Belarus .

The venue for the world championships was the Minsk-Arena , which opened in 2008 and whose cycle track was designed by the Münster-based architect Ralph Schürmann . The European Junior Track Championships took place there in 2009.

Around 190 athletes from 35 nations took part. The dominant nation of the World Championships was the United Kingdom, which won the scoring with a total of nine medals, five of which were gold, followed by Germany with a total of eight medals. It was the most successful track world championships for the team of the Association of German Cyclists in 13 years.

The best female athlete of the entire world championships was the Briton Rebecca James with two gold and two bronze medals. The German Stefan Bötticher , the Australian Michael Hepburn and the American Sarah Hammer followed with two gold medals . So Bötticher was also the best male German athlete, the best German was Kristina Vogel with a gold and a silver medal; The success of another medal was denied her because she fell in the final run of the Keirin. The Austrian Andreas Müller , one of two representatives of his association, won a silver medal in the scratch and thus the only medal for his association. The only medal for Switzerland was won by Stefan Küng in the single pursuit.

The special performance of the Irishman Martyn Irvine , who became vice world champion in single pursuit and world champion in scratch , caused a stir . Both races took place within an hour; 20 minutes after the award ceremony in the single pursuit, Irvine started successfully in the scratch. He is the first male athlete from Ireland in 116 years to win medals in track cycling.
