Kirill Michailowitsch Sweschnikow ( Russian Кирилл Михайлович Свешников ; born February 10, 1992 in St. Petersburg ) is a Russian cyclist .

Career

Kirill Sweschnikow was the 2010 European Junior Champion on the track in the team pursuit. There was also silver in the points race and silver in the Madison. Silver in the Madison and bronze in the points race followed at the 2010 World Junior Championships on the track. In 2011, the team pursuit title followed at the U23 European Championship on the track. In 2012 he won the track cycling world cup in scratch in Beijing. In October he was runner-up at the 2012 UEC European Rail Championships in the points race. At the UCI Track World Championships in 2013 , bronze was added in the points race.

In 2014 he drew attention to himself on the street. He won a stage in the Troféu Joaquim Agostinho stage race in Portugal . In addition, he was temporarily suspended due to a positive doping test that took place during the Russian track cycling championships. In 2015 Sveshnikov won the team pursuit at the Track Cycling World Cup in Cali . In 2016 he switched to RusVelo . At the Settimana Internazionale 2016 in Italy , he won the team time trial.

Sveshnikov was nominated to participate in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but was then expelled along with Dmitri Strachow and Dmitri Sokolow after their names were listed in the McLaren Report on systematic doping by Russian athletes. Appeals by the athletes against this exclusion at the International Court of Justice (CAS) were unsuccessful. In September 2017, the three athletes filed a lawsuit against McLaren, the world anti-doping agency WADA and the Russian laboratory manager Grigori Rodchenkov at the Ontario Superior Court (McLaren is Canadian), demanding seven million dollars in compensation for pain and suffering. The exclusion was due to a hasty investigation and caused great damage to their reputation.

At the Vuelta a Castilla y León 2018 he finished fifth on the first two stages. On the track, he secured the Russian championship title in the Omnium.
