Richard McLaren

Richard Henry McLaren OC (* 1945 ) is a Canadian university professor and lawyer .

McLaren received his Masters of Laws from the University of London and joined the Ontario Bar Association in 1974.

He is a professor at Western University in Ontario . His focus is on sports law . In December 2015, McLaren was named Officer of the Order of Canada .

He achieved worldwide fame with the presentation of the so-called McLaren Report , which dealt with systematic doping in Russian sport. McLaren is also a member of the International Court of Justice .

Since the beginning of 2020, McLaren has also been chairman of the commission of inquiry that investigates the allegations made in an ARD documentary against the International Weightlifting Federation and its President Tamás Aján . The final report published in early June 2020 confirmed all major allegations against Aján and painted a devastating picture of the IMF under Aján's leadership. In addition, new abuses such as election fraud in Aján's 2013 and 2017 election as well as hushed up doping results from World Cup medal winners became known.
