The Sports Law comprises of sports associations and - combine established, civil rules for a particular sport . In a broader sense, it also includes a statutory cross-cutting issue of association law , labor law , corporate law , commercial law , administrative law , criminal law and European law . While the former is mostly enforced by private sports courts (or by the referee on the sports field ), the latter (e.g. in the scope of the anti-doping law ) is also relevant for public ( criminal ) jurisdiction . State sports funding is also summarized under sports law. In some countries there is even a separate sports ministry for this purpose .

There are two German-language sports law magazines : Sport und Recht (SpuRt) and Causa Sport . LL.M. in sports law will be offered by the University of Bayreuth and the University of Gießen from the 2015/2016 winter semester . The Bucerius Law School has been offering a "Bucerius Summer Program in Sports Law" since 2016.
