Stefan Bötticher (born February 1, 1992 in Leinefelde ) is a German track cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2008, Stefan Bötticher took fourth place at the German Sprint Championships (youth) and won the overall ranking of the " Albert Richter Sprinter Cup " in his age group. The following year, he was two-time junior world champion in sprint and team sprint . At the German Junior Championships, he finished second in the Keirin and third in the sprint.
At the 2010 Junior World Track Championships in Montichiari , Italy , Bötticher won two medals, a silver in the sprint and a bronze in the team sprint, together with Philip Hindes and Robert Kanter . In the Keirin final he fell in a good position just before the finish and was only sixth. At the German Championships in Cottbus , Bötticher won two titles in the juniors, in the sprint and in the keirin. In the team sprint, he finished third together with Max Niederlag and Jannik Markquard . In 2011, at the age of 19, he became German sprint champion in Berlin in front of the internationally experienced athletes René Enders , Robert Förstemann and Maximilian Levy ; in the Keirin he was third. A short time later he became three-time European champion (U 23) in the sprint, keirin and team sprint in Anadia, Portugal , together with Erik Balzer and Joachim Eilers .
Stefan Bötticher is a member of the Chemnitz Police Sports Club and drove for the professional track team Team Erdgas.2012 until 2012 , for which he competed in the elite class for the first time at the Track Cycling World Cup 2010/11 . At the 2011/12 Track Cycling World Cup in Cali in December 2011 , he won the sprint, ahead of his compatriots and club colleagues Levy and Förstemann, together with Eilers and Förstemann, he finished second in the team sprint.
At the U23 and Juniors 2012 European Rail Championships in Anadia, Bötticher won the gold medal together with Balzer and Eric Engler in the team sprint (U23) and also repeated his success from the previous year by winning the sprint and keirin. At the German championships in the same year he won three national titles, in the keirin, in the sprint and in the team sprint (with Max Niederlag and Levy), making him the most successful athlete at these championships.
In 2013 Stefan Bötticher became two-time world champion in Minsk , in the sprint and team sprint, together with Levy and René Enders. Because of an injury, he was unable to compete in the 2013/14 Track Cycling World Cup . In autumn 2014 he won the sprint and keirin titles at the German championships in Cottbus . From 2015 Bötticher suffered from persistent muscular problems. In December of that year he had to cancel his participation in the third round of the Track Cycling World Cup in January 2016, so that he was not able to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
After a long period of rehabilitation, Bötticher resumed his training in September 2017. In spring 2018 he was nominated for the World Railroad Championships in Apeldoorn . Together with Maximilian Levy and Joachim Eilers , he finished fifth in the team sprint. At the UEC European Rail Championships in Glasgow in August 2018 , he won three medals: with Timo Bichler and Eilers bronze in the team sprint and silver in the sprint; in the keirin he became European champion. In 2019 he was third in the Keirin World Cup .
Honors
In 2012, Stefan Bötticher was voted Sportsman of the Year for his club, the Chemnitz Police Sports Club . In March of the same year he was also named Chemnitz “Young Athlete of the Year” 2011 with the Chemmy ; he received this award a second time in 2012. In 2018 he was named “Athlete of the Year” by Chemnitz with the Chemmy.
