Udo Hempel (* 3. November 1946 in Dusseldorf-Flingern ) is a former German cyclist and track - national coach . His greatest sporting successes include the gold medal in the four-man team pursuit at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich and the silver medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City . From 1982 to 1988 he was national coach.
Since the end of his sporting career, Hempel has worked as a management consultant and organizer or patron of various cycling events such as the town of Büttgen ( Kaarst ) . B. the "SixDayNight" active on the cycling track in Büttgen. In 2005 he was ambassador for the World Games in Duisburg. In the first half of 2017 he acted as Tour de France ambassador for the city of Kaarst; The 2017 tour led from Düsseldorf on July 2, 2017 through Büttgen.
