Luke Roberts (born January 25, 1977 in Adelaide ) is an Australian sports director and former cyclist . His greatest successes as an active player include three world championship titles and an Olympic victory in the team pursuit .
Athletic career
At the beginning of his career, Luke Roberts was initially successful on the track . As a junior he was in 1994 with the Australian team track world champion in the team pursuit. He repeated this success in 1995 and was also junior world champion in the single pursuit . In the adult field he was world champion in the team pursuit three times: in Copenhagen in 2002 , in Stuttgart in 2003 and in Melbourne in 2004 .
At the UCI Track World Championships in Stuttgart in 2003 , the Australian team was able to defend the title in the 4,000 m team pursuit with a new world record. Together with Graeme Brown , Peter Dawson and Brett Lancaster , the team with Roberts drove a time of 3: 57.185 minutes in the final.
In 2002 and 2003, Roberts also won silver in the singles pursuit. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he won the gold medal with his team, which set a new world record in the first round of the tournament.
After these successes, Roberts concentrated on road cycling and switched from the German Continental Team ComNet-Senges to the Danish ProTeam CSC of the 1996 Tour de France winner Bjarne Riis . For this team he took part in the Tour de France for the first time in 2005 and finished the race in 102nd place . Roberts competed in the Tour de France 2010 for Team Milram and was 103rd.
In the 2013 and 2014 seasons he drove for the Stölting team .
