Leon Meredith (born February 2, 1882 in London , † January 27, 1930 in Davos ) was an English cyclist . With seven world championship titles, he was the most successful amateur - stayers of all time. He participated in three Olympic Games and won two medals .

In 1901, at the age of 19, Meredith discovered his interest in cycling. At the end of his first season he was national champion on the tandem . His wealthy uncle then enabled him to race as an amateur; with your own trainer, masseur and pacemaker .

As a result, Meredith became world champion seven times ( 1904 , 1905 , 1907 , 1908 , 1909 , 1911 and 1913 ). He was also seven times British champion in various disciplines and set numerous records.

At the Olympic Games in his hometown of London in 1908 , Meredith won the gold medal with a four-wheel scull . At the games four years later he won the silver medal in the team driving on the road and finished fourth in the individual race. In 1920 he took part in the Olympic Games for the third time, but did not get beyond an 18th place in the street race.

In 1911 and 1912 Meredith was British roller skating champion , which he also did as a professional at times. He built a roller-skating hall and a dance hall.

In 1912 Leon Meredith invented a patented tire and founded the "Constrictor Tire Company", a company that existed until the 1960s.

At the age of 48, Meredith died of a heart attack while skiing in Davos.
