Artūras Kasputis (born February 22, 1967 in Klaipėda ) is a sports director and former Lithuanian and former Soviet cyclist .
Athletic career
1985 Artūras Kasputis was Junior World Champion in the single pursuit in Stuttgart ; in the team pursuit , the Soviet team with Kasputis finished third. In 1986 he won the Tour of Egypt and in 1987 the Tour of Morocco . In the single pursuit of the amateurs at the UCI track world championships in 1987 in Vienna , he was third. At the Olympic Games in Seoul, Kasputis won the gold medal in the team pursuit together with Gintautas Umaras , Vyacheslav Jekimow , Mindaugas Umaras and Dmitri Neljubin . He won a Soviet championship title in 1988 with the team from Klaipeda in the team pursuit (inter alia with Gintautas Umaras and Remigijus Lupeikis ). In 1990 he finished second in Rund um Berlin . In 1991 he won the Circuit du Port de Dunkerque and the Circuito Montañés .
Kasputis turned pro in 1992. During his ten-year career, he drove mainly in French teams. In his first year as a professional, he won the Chrono des Herbiers and the Route du Sud and was third in the single pursuit at the World Railroad Championships in Valencia . He also won the Vuelta a España junior ranks . In 1999 he won the Circuit de Lorraine . Artūras Kasputis started five times in the Tour de France , but was never able to place in front. Two more times - in 1996 and 2000 , he took part in the Olympic Games in rail and road disciplines, but without winning another medal.
Professional
After the end of his active cycling career in 2002, Kasputis became Sports Director of the ag2r La Mondiale team . At the same time he works as a Lithuanian national coach on a freelance basis.
