Peter Vonhof

Peter Vonhof (born January 15, 1949 in Berlin ) is a former German racing cyclist .

Athletic career

In 1970 Peter Vonhof won the world championship in the amateur team pursuit in Leicester together with Günter Haritz , Hans Lutz and Günther Schumacher . He started for the club BRC Opel student derby .

In 1973 , 1974 and 1975 Peter Vonhof was world champion three times in a row with the West German four-wheeler. Vonhof, Hans Lutz and Günther Schumacher were involved in every title, in 1973 by Günter Haritz, 1974 by Dietrich Thurau and 1975 by Gregor Braun .

The track four, the “flagship” of track cycling , was trained by Gustav Kilian , a specialist in discovering chasers.

At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich Vonhof was part of the so-called " gold foursome " team, but did not make the final. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal , the strong German team once again lived up to its role as favorites and defeated the USSR in the cast of Braun, Lutz, Schumacher and Vonhof in the final. A year later, at the track world championships in 1977 , the four-man with Vonhof, Lutz, Schumacher and Henry Rinklin was once again runner-up in the world championship, only beaten by the GDR team .

Honors

In 1973 Vonhof and the team were voted Sportsman of the Year . For his sporting achievements, he was honored with the silver laurel leaf on September 11, 1970 .
