Heinz Drescher (born April 28, 1921 in Berlin ) is a former German cyclist who was active in the GDR in the 1950s .

Athletic career

Drescher began cycling with the Wima-Derby Berlin club in 1937 , but was only able to take part in internal club races because he had not joined the Hitler Youth (HJ). In races of the German Cyclists' Association he only started in the men's class. After the war he moved to SC Einheit Berliner Bär / SC Einheit Berlin . After the Second World War , he often competed in cinder track races. In 1947 he won 27 loops alone. He made his first start as a professional driver on April 4, 1948 in front of 35,000 spectators in the Berlin-Mitte stadium. He surprisingly won the sprint against Werner Bunzel and could look forward to prize money of 1,000 marks - a successful debut. In 1950 and 1951 he was the GDR sprint champion among professional drivers . At the German Championships in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1951 he was 2nd behind Georg Voggenreiter . Drescher also started twice in the Berlin six-day race (with Heinz Holthüter ), but retired both times. In 1952 he was reamateurised and joined the SC unit Berliner Bär . In 1952 he was again GDR champion in the sprint, this time in the amateur class (in 1954 he was third). He won other national titles in the team pursuit in 1954 with Fritz Yearling , Werner Malitz and Knöchelmann, and in 1955 in the 1000-meter time trial . On the tandem he and Jürgen Simon won the silver medal at the GDR championship in 1955.
