Karl Wesoly

Karl Wesoly (born February 2, 1913 in Halle (Saale) ; † 2000 even) was a German cyclist and national cycling champion .

Athletic career

His father brought him to the RC Opel Halle, where he was also a member and now his son was taking his first steps in cycling .

Wesoly became a member of the German national team of train drivers in 1932 at the age of 19 . At that time (1934) he became a professional driver for the Dürkopp company . He attended the standing school in Elberfeld , where he was one of the best 16 amateurs who qualified for further training. In the 1930s, behind pacemaker Fritz Erdenberger, he was one of the local heroes on the railways in Halle an der Saale and throughout Saxony-Anhalt . Also in 1934 he opened a bicycle shop on Böllberger Weg in the immediate vicinity of the Böllberger Radrennbahn . After the Second World War he was one of the initiators of cycling in Halle and Saxony-Anhalt. He himself mainly competed in track races as a professional driver . In 1952, at the age of 39, he was the GDR champion in the professional driver sprint ahead of Wilfried Mauf . In 1951 he was already second behind Heinz Drescher. become. He ended his career in 1957.

Professional

After he had ended his active career at the age of 44, he remained closely connected to cycling as a functionary, organizer, press attendant and organizer. His bicycle shop in Halle remained a popular meeting place for cyclists in Saxony-Anhalt.
