Günter Schulz (cyclist)

Günter Schulz (born July 4, 1928 in Berlin , † 2008 in Berlin) was a German cyclist .

Athletic career

Schulz joined the professional drivers in 1948 and in the same year won the East Zone Championship (later GDR Championship) for professional drivers in the sprint . His domain were the cinderella races, which were extremely well attended at the time, especially in Berlin, where he won numerous victories, including some Berlin championships (which were open nationwide at the time). In the following years he took part in the German championships of the Federal Republic (whereby he did not achieve a podium place) and started less often in the GDR . He also received championship honors in the two-man team race in 1948, which he won with Erich Golz .

Schulz was the youngest professional driver licensed in Germany in 1947. He started several times in the following six-day races , but without major success. He competed seven times in his hometown of Berlin, 7th place with Severino Rigoni in 1954 being his best result. In 1955 he started alongside the famous ex-world champion Jan Derksen .

Professional

After he ended his career in the late 1950s, he worked in a Berlin bicycle store.
