Wilfried Mauf (born August 22, 1927 in Halle an der Saale ; † January 12, 2014 there ) was a German racing cyclist .

Athletic career

Mauf started cycling in his hometown Halle in 1940. In 1949 he won the forerunner of the GDR championships in the rail sprint (east zone championship) for professional drivers. In this discipline he was second and 1953 third in the championships. On February 15, 1955, the GDR cycling federation published a decision of its executive committee, according to which all still active professional drivers and pacemakers were asked to immediately become “members of the democratic sports movement” and to join a company sports community (BSG). All athletes who would take advantage of this opportunity would be exempt from the usual two-year waiting period and would immediately be eligible to start with the amateurs. The resolution was of an ultimate nature and ended with a deadline of February 28, 1955.

After he had himself reamateurised in March 1955, he was still active as a pacemaker in standing races for a long time . Here he was third in the GDR championship in 1987 with Jürgen Ehm, and in 1988 he led Falk Schlosser to this rank.
