Einar Henning Smebye

Einar Henning Smebye (born November 29, 1950 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian pianist and music teacher.

Smebye had piano lessons with Nicolai Dirdal at the age of ten , which he continued from 1963 to 1968 with Hildegunn Reuter at their music school. Under her guidance, he made his concert debut in the auditorium of the University of Oslo in 1968 . He then studied piano with Bruno Seidlhofer and form analysis with Erwin Ratz , a student of Guido Adler and Arnold Schoenberg, at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna . He completed his studies in 1972 and perfected his training from 1974 at the École Normale de Musique with Germaine Mounier. Since 1977 he has been teaching piano at the Østlandets Conservatory of Music, which was transferred to the Norwegian Academy of Music in 1996 .

In addition to the classical piano repertoire, Smebye's interest is centered on the works of Norwegian, especially contemporary, composers. He became a member of the Ny Musikks Ensemble in 1977 . As a chamber musician, he has worked with singers such as Njål Sparboe , Anne Lise Berntsen , Tove Træsdal and Solveig Kringlebotn and instrumentalists such as Ole Edvard Antonsen , Aage Kvalbein and Terje Tønnesen . He recorded Edvard Grieg's piano concerto in 1987 under the direction of Karsten Andersen , and Alban Berg's chamber concerto for piano, violin and 13 wind instruments in 1993 with the violinist Eivind Aadland under the direction of Ole Kristian Ruud .
