Ole Edvard Antonsen

Ole Edvard Antonsen (born April 25, 1962 in Vang ) is a Norwegian trumpeter.

Antonsen began playing the piano at the age of three, but soon discovered the trumpet for himself, on which he made such rapid progress that at the age of seven he was already performing as a soloist with his father's dance band, Odd Antonsen , who also taught him. At the age of ten he began training at the Oslo Music Academy with Harry Kvebaek . In 1975 he performed with the Odense Symphony Orchestra . After completing his studies in 1982 he became a member of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra .

After winning the Concours International d'Exécution Musicale (CIEM) in Geneva in 1987 and a UNESCO music competition in Bratislava in 1989 , he began an international career as a solo trumpeter. In the field of classical music he has worked with the Australian Chamber Orchestra , the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra , the BBC Symphony Orchestra , the Berlin Philharmonic , the Czech Philharmonic , the Dresden Philharmonic , the English Chamber Orchestra , the Israel Chamber Orchestra and the Kioi Sinfonietta Tokyo , the Stockholm Radio Orchestra and the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra and under conductors such as Jiří Bělohlávek , Mariss Jansons , Kent Nagano , Yoel Levi and Jeffrey Tate . The composer Torstein Aagaard-Nielsen wrote Hommage for him in 1996 , a concerto for trumpet and string orchestra, which he premiered in Bergen.

He has appeared with Wayne Marshall , Håvard Gimse and Kåre Nordstoga , among others . He is particularly interested in the compositions of contemporary musicians. As a rock and jazz trumpeter he worked a. a. with John Miles , the Level 42 group , Mark King , Lisa Stansfield , and the Willem Breuker Kollektief . As a soloist and guest soloist, he has worked on more than sixty albums. In 1992 he received the Spellemann Prize for the crossover album Tour de Force .
