Alfred Janson

Alfred Martin Janson (born March 3 or March 10, 1937 in Oslo ; † May 19, 2019 ) was a Norwegian composer , pianist and accordionist .

Live and act

Janson, who played accordion in restaurants in Oslo at the age of twelve, was trained as a pianist by his mother. He studied music theory and composition with Bjørn Fongaard and Finn Mortensen and took part in the Darmstadt summer courses . He made his debut as a pianist in 1962.

Janson's music cannot be determined stylistically. He said of himself that he was interested in everything except Wagner and Viennese operettas. As a performing musician, he worked mainly as a jazz pianist and also wrote many arrangements for jazz bands. Attributable during his early avant-garde compositions can be found in his later works influences of late Romanticism, jazz and Norwegian s folklore . He can also be heard on albums with Ketil Bjørnstad ( Odyssey ), Odd Børretzen and the Willem Breuker Kollektief ( With Strings Attached ).
