The Willem Breuker Kollektief was an Amsterdam jazz formation. The collective consisting of ten musicians was founded in 1974 by Willem Breuker . It was directed by him until his death in 2010, and much of the repertoire came from him. The group not only played serious music, but rather combined modern jazz and improvisational arts with classical music and many popular styles. A pinch of self-irony was not neglected. Sometimes situations were theatrically exaggerated.

Career

Two members of the previous line-up, Bernard Hunnekink and Rob Verdurmen , are founding members of the group. The founding members also included Bob Driessen (alto saxophone), Herman de Wit (tenor saxophone), Willem van Manen (trombone), Leo Cuypers (piano), Jan Wolff ( horn ), Boy Raaymakers (trumpet), Lodewijk de Boer (viola), Ronald Snijders ( flute ) and Maarten Altena (double bass). In the meantime, Garrett List , Chris Abelen , André Goudbeek , Peter Barkema and Alex Coke also belonged to the collection. After Breuker's death, the Kollektief went on tour with the show Happy End in Europe and North America, for which it also drew on Breuker's ideas. At the end of 2012, on December 28, 29 and 31, 2012, the ensemble played its last concerts in the Bimhuis in Amsterdam .

Discography

The Kollektief has published around 35 records. There are also various radio and television recordings as well as a DVD with Gisela May . Almost all LPs and CDs have been released by the BVHaast label, also founded by Willem Breuker . These include:
