Harry tin

Harry Blech CBE (born March 2, 1910 in London ; † May 9, 1999 ibid) was a British violinist and conductor .

Blech studied violin at Trinity College of Music with Sarah Fennings , then at Manchester College of Music with Arthur Catterall and finally in Prague with Otakar Ševčík . In 1929 and 1930 he was a member of the Hallé Orchestra . In 1930 he became a member of the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Adrian Boult .

Since the mid-1930s he also played in various string quartet formations, for example with Edward Silverman , Douglas Thompson and William Pleeth , and later with Max Salpeter , Keith Cummings and Douglas Cameron .

At the same time he began his career as a conductor. In 1942 he founded the "London Wind Players". At the suggestion of the pianist Dorothea Braus , he founded the London Mozart Players in 1949 . The orchestra gained international recognition with the interpretation of the works of Mozart , Haydn and Beethoven , but also by contemporary composers. When Blech retired in 1984, he had performed with the Mozart Players in around two hundred cities with around two hundred soloists. In 1962 and 1984 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE, 1962; CBE 1984).
