London Mozart Players

Founded by Harry Blech in 1949 as the first chamber orchestra in the United Kingdom , the London Mozart Players (LMP) are an ensemble of international musicians.

The LMP played under numerous conductors, including Sir John Barbirolli , Sir John Eliot Gardiner , Sir Charles Mackerras , Sir Roger Norrington and Sir Georg Solti . Former LMP Music Directors include Andrew Parrott , an early music expert, Matthias Bamert , Jane Glover and Harry Blech. Sir James Galway are currently conducting as Principal Guest Conductor and Nicolae Moldoveanu as Associate Guest Conductor and Simon Callow as LMP Theatrical Advisor.

The LMP's home base is Fairfield Halls in Croydon , Surrey . In 2006, Mozart's anniversary year, the LMP performed his music in over 130 venues in Great Britain and Europe.

Since 1993 the LMP has been involved in a series of CD recordings by unknown classical composers, which appears under the title Contemporaries of Mozart and includes works by Ignaz Josef Pleyel , Christian Cannabich , Franz Krommer , Leopold Mozart , Michael Haydn , Muzio Clementi , Wilhelm Herschel , John Marsh , Carlos Baguer and Leopold Koželuh . The latest of now 24 recordings are dedicated to symphonies, ballet suites and overtures by Georg Joseph Vogler (published in April 2009) and symphonies by Luigi Boccherini (published in June 2010).
