Andy Altenfelder

Andreas "Andy" Altenfelder (* 1944 ) is a German jazz trumpeter .

Live and act

Altenfelder studied 1964–1966 at the Franz Liszt University of Weimar and 1966–1970 at the German University of Music "Hanns Eisler" Berlin. In 1967 he was a member of the GDR band Die Alexanders . From 1968 he belonged to the Modern Soul Band , which played soul and blues . He also played with Manfred Schulze and Ulrich Gumpert . He then approached free music improvisation and worked first with Hubert Katzenbeier in a duo, then in a quartet. With this Berlin improvisation quartet , which was also influenced by Hermann Keller , he recorded a record for the AMIGA label .

He founded his own group with Hannes Bauer , Heiner Reinhardt, Christoph Winckel and Wolfram Dix . After appearances at the Moers Festival (Whitsun 1979) and at the West Berlin concert series Jazz Now. Jazz from the GDR (August 1979) he was permanently employed as a trumpeter in the Willem Breuker Kollektief from 1981 . There he was on international tours - initially as a GDR citizen - until the group split up at the end of 2012. In addition, he also played in the GDR jazz orchestra and in the band of JC Tans in 1987/88 . His work is documented on numerous records and CDs.
