Ulrich "Uli" Gumpert (born January 26, 1945 in Jena ) is a German jazz musician . The pianist, organist and composer developed a special style of making music.

Life

Gumpert received piano lessons from his father Willy Gumpert from 1952 to 1959. From 1961 he studied the French horn at the Liszt School of Music Weimar , and also played with the Jena Oldtimers. In 1964, he was due to insufficient achievements in Marxism-Leninism expelled . In 1966 Gumpert moved to East Berlin.
