Silke Eberhard (born June 13, 1972 in Heidenheim an der Brenz ) is a German jazz musician ( alto saxophone , clarinet , bass clarinet ) and composer .

Live and act

The Swabian studied from 1995 to 2000 at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music , a. a. with Rudi Mahall , Grégoire Peters and Norbert Nagel . Since 1997 she has been professionally active as a jazz and theater musician; In 1998 she played in Vancouver with Slide Hampton and Hugh Fraser ; In 1999 she studied with David Liebman . She played with Aki Takases April (including Terri Lyne Carrington , Anne Mette Iversen , Ingrid Jensen , Annie Whitehead ) at the 2000 JazzFest Berlin . She worked with Takase in various duo and quartet projects, such as Tristano 317 ; the duo's joint Ornette Coleman project (double CD on Intakt Records 2007) received numerous positive reviews.

Eberhard lives in Berlin and continues to play with her trio (with Jan Roder and Kay Lübke ), in a duo with Ulrich Gumpert as well as Gumpert's B3 special and the Hannes Zerbe Jazz Orchestra. She played concerts with David Liebman , Wayne Horvitz , Dave Burrell , Gerry Hemingway , Michael Zerang and many others. In 2004 and 2005 she was visiting professor at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Bogotá in Colombia.

The "Silke Eberhard Quartet" was invited to the 2008 German jazz performance show at the German Jazz Meeting during Jazzahead in Bremen. There she also performed in 2010 with the Potsa Lotsa project and presented new arrangements of Eric Dolphy's works for a quartet consisting exclusively of winds.

In 2012 the Silke Eberhard Trio performed in Munich's Studio 2 of Bayerischer Rundfunk. In 2014 Eberhard completed the unfinished three-movement Love Suite by Eric Dolphy and added further corresponding original compositions. For this project she expanded her wind quartet Potsa Lotsa to the septet Potsa Lotsa Plus ( Jürgen Kupke , Marc Unternährer , Antonis Anissegos joined them ). The ensemble performed at the Jazzfest Berlin 2014. She plays in the duo Matsch und Schnee with the bassist Maike Hilbig .

Eberhard has been a member of the board of the Union of German Jazz Musicians since 2014 .

Prizes and awards

In 2005, Eberhard won a prize at the Berlin Senate's studio competition with her Silke Eberhard Quartet . In 2007 she received the 10th Jazzpott in Essen . With a "jazz scholarship" from the Berlin Senate in 2009, she realized the Potsa Lotsa project . In 2011 she received the Nürnberger Nachrichten International Jazz Prize . In 2012 she was artist in residence at Stadtmühle Willisau, and in 2015 she was invited to Wuppertal by the Peter Kowald Gesellschaft / Ort eV. In 2015 her album Potsa Lotsa Plus plays Love Suite by Eric Dolphy was included on the 2015/1 best list of the German Record Critics ' Award . In the 63rd and 65th Critics poll of the Downbeat , she is listed as the Rising Star Alto Saxophone . In 2020 she will receive the Berlin Jazz Prize .
