Wayne Horvitz (born September 1, 1955 in New York ) is an American jazz musician , composer and band leader . He plays the piano , Hammond organ and synthesizer . Wayne Horvitz also works as a music producer .

biography

Horvitz had piano and flute lessons as a child. He studied at the University of California, Santa Cruz and already performed with his own groups during this time. Back in New York, he was in the "downtown" scene. He has worked and lived in Seattle with his wife, pianist and singer Robin Holcomb , since the mid-1990s . His brother Bill Horvitz (1947-2017) was also a jazz musician.

Musical work

In addition to numerous of his own music projects since the late 1970s, Horvitz is known to a larger audience primarily through his involvement in projects by John Zorn such as the band Naked City . He has worked with many experimental musicians, especially in the fields of new music and jazz . He is involved in numerous sound carriers by John Zorn, but also by Marty Ehrlich , Robin Holcomb, Eugene Chadbourne , Bill Frisell , Tenko , Jon Rose , Zeena Parkins and David Moss . He has also worked on recordings by Peter Apfelbaum , Jerry Granelli , Karen Pernick and Michael Shrieve .

For their joint album "Nine Below Zero", Butch Morris , Bobby Previte and he received the German Record Critics' Prize in 1987 .
