Eyvind Kang (born June 23, 1971 in Corvallis (Oregon) ) is an American composer and multi-instrumentalist ( violin , viola , tuba , erhu ) of the Modern Creative .

Live and act

Kang grew up in Canada and the United States. From 1990 he studied in Seattle at the Cornish College of the Arts with Michael White and later also took classes with N. Rajam in Mumbai . He met John Zorn through Wayne Horvitz . He worked with such diverse musicians as Zorn, Horvitz, François Houle , Bill Frisell , Mike Patton , Sunn 0))) , Marc Ribot , Michael Bisio and Beck , whom he accompanied on a tour of Japan in 2000. With Calvin Weston and Kato Hideki he founded the trio Dying Ground .

In 1994, Kang received funding from the Jack Straw Foundation and was able to record the first seven of a series of compositions he called Nades (a play on words with serenade ). The album made him known to critics and was included in various best lists in 1996. Further Nades are included on the follow-up album Theater of Mineral NADEs .

The multi-instrumentalist is also featured on albums by Joe McPhee , Arto Lindsay , Mr. Bungle , Secret Chiefs 3 , Sun City Girls , Animal Collective (on their album Feels ), Laura Veirs , Robin Holcomb , The Decemberists ( The Crane Wife ; 2006), Sunn O ( Monoliths & Dimensions ) as well as Boris ( Altar ) and napoli 13 . He also worked with Jim Knapp and has written arrangements for Blonde Redhead .

Kang lives on Vashon Island in Washington .
