Blonde Redhead are an American dream pop band from New York .

history

The band was founded in New York in 1993 by the art students Kazu Makino (vocals / guitar) and Maki Takahashi (bass) from Kyoto and the Italian twin brothers Simone (drums) and Amedeo Pace (vocals / guitar). They named their band after a song from Arto Lindsay's No wave band DNA . Their first album Blonde Redhead was produced by Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley and appeared on Smells like records , shortly after the release Takahashi left the band. For the recordings of the album Fake Can Be Just As Good in 1997 Vern Rumsey from Unwound played the bass, the album Melody Of Certain Damaged Lemons from 2000 was recorded again as a trio.

After a break of several years due to a Makinos riding accident, Blonde Redhead released the most commercially successful album to date, Misery Is a Butterfly, on the independent label 4AD in 2004 . 4AD also released albums 23 (2007) and Penny Sparkle (2010).

Her title For the Damaged Coda was used in the first and third seasons of the animated series Rick and Morty . Since the melody always appears when the character "Evil Morty" (an evil version of one of the two main characters) turns out to be the mastermind behind the respective episode, it is considered the character's signature melody.
