Dylan van der Schyff

Dylan van der Schyff (* 1970 in Johannesburg ) is a Canadian jazz drummer.

Van der Schyff grew up in Canada and studied at the universities of Victoria and Montreal. He worked for the first time in Ron Samworth's group Talking Pictures with his future wife, the cellist Peggy Lee , with whom he settled in Vancouver in the early 1990s.

Here he became one of the leading figures on the scene of new and improvised music. He performs regularly at the Du Maurier International Jazz Festival and has worked with musicians such as George Lewis , Louis Sclavis , Eyvind Kang , Georg Graewe , Myra Melford , Michael Moore , Mark Helias , Evan Parker , Vinny Golia and Andy Laster .

He participated in recordings and performances by Tony Wilson's band, played in the trio of François Houle and is a member of the NOW Orchestra and made recordings in a trio with Michael Moore and Achim Kaufmann , in a duo with saxophonist John Butcher and his wife Peggy Lee . He teaches jazz at the Banff Center .
