Tony Wilson (jazz guitarist)

Tony Wilson (* around 1961) is a Canadian jazz and improvisation musician ( guitar , arrangement , composition ).

Live and act

Wilson grew up in Ottawa . At the age of 16, he left home and roamed the country. When he was about 19 he lived on Hornby Island , where he turned to the guitar and accompanied American songs. In 1981 he attended the jazz program at Malaspina College , where he studied composition with Pat Carpenter. In 1986 he attended a summer course in Banff for the first time; the following year he moved to Vancouver in 1987, where he soon started working as a professional musician. In the early 1990s he played in Vancouver with the brass player Ralph Eppel , with whom the first recordings were made. 1992 began his collaboration with François Houle , whose band projects Et Cetera and François Houle 5 he was a member. He has since worked with John Korsrud ( Odd Jobs ...) , Saul Berson , Peggy Lee , Bill Smith and Brad Muirhead . In 2000 he recorded his debut album Lowest Note (Spool) with his sextet, for which he wrote and arranged compositions , on which Kevin Elaschuk (trumpet) François Houle, Dave Say (tenor saxophone), Peggy Lee, Paul Blaney (bass) and Dylan van der Schyff participated. In 2003 the album Horseplay followed (Shire Editions, with JP Carter, Masa Anzai, Travis Baker and Skye Brooks). In the field of jazz he was involved in 27 recording sessions between 1990 and 2012.
